Project Description

Operation of complex housing technology and consumer electronics frequently requires profound technical knowledge and skills. Therefore, many people refrain from using such devices. Presuppositionless and easy-to-use control concepts can help to improve the accessibility of these technologies.

In the UCUI project we develop a universal hardware module which allows an intuitive interaction with arbitrary electronic devices. Interaction takes place through speech, acoustic and visual symbols, and gestures. The system shall be capable of learning from the behavior of users. System design is based on a study of user-machine interactions in a real application scenario and will take into account relevant legal and ethical aspects.

A universal cognitive user interface module will simplify the operation of housing technology and consumer electronics. In the future the interface can be extended to control even more complex technical systems like measurement and diagnosis devices or manufacturing facilities.
